SNL Brings Together “The Hobbit” and “The Office”

The Hobbit Office

With Martin Freeman hosting Saturday Night Live, it is almost a no-brainer that the show would have to do something about two of his most famous roles — as Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit films and as Tim Canterbury on the BBC’s original series The Office. Still, SNL managed to take a funny concept and make it really funny with The Hobbit Office.

The segment also features Bobby Moynahan as Gandalf as the boss of a paper company, reflecting the character played by series creator Ricky Gervais and later played by Steve Carell in the U.S. version. And wait until you see which character from Middle Earth takes on the role of The Office‘s Gareth Keenan/Dwight Schrute character. Check it out.

The final Hobbit film, The Battle of the Five Armies, will be in theaters starting December 17, 2014.

    Two Spocks and an Audi

    Spock Nimoy Commercial

This funny new Audi commercial features the new Star Trek Spock Zachary Quinto and the original Spock Leonard Nimoy as the two challenge each other in a race to the golf course. The ad, featuring the the Audi S7, includes several Star Trek references, of course. But there’s also a Hobbit reference as Nimoy belts out part of his classic recording, “The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins.” Check it out.

The Hobbit: There and Balloon Again

This video shows “The Balloon Guy” Jeremy Telford using balloons to create a replica of Bilbo Baggins’s home from J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit. In the time-lapse video, Telford uses 2,600 balloons to create Bag End, including such details as a candle chandelier. Check it out.

The room seems comfortable. The first film in The Lord of the Rings prequels, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is scheduled to premiere November, 28 2012 in New Zealand.

What do you think of Bilbo’s balloon room? Leave your two cents in the comments.
