New Song from Kasey Chambers: “Wheelbarrow”

Kasey Chambers Bittersweet

Singer-songwriter Kasey Chambers will release her seventh album, Bittersweet (2014), later this month, and she has already released a video for one of the songs from the new album, “Wheelbarrow.”

The video for “Wheelbarrow” was directed by Renny Wijeyamohan, who recorded parts of the video in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. The Australian singer’s song rocks out with electric guitars, while the video features a robbery by two lovers, as well as a wheelbarrow. Check it out.

Bittersweet, which is Chambers’s first solo album in four years, will be released on August 29.

Album of the Day: Dan Blakeslee “Tatnic Tales”

    Tatnic Tales

I have been enjoying Dan Blakeslee‘s 2011 album Tatnic Tales. Blakeslee has a folk sound rooted in his upbringing in Maine, and the album includes his band The Calabash Club, a group that started out in a Dover, New Hampshire basement in 2008. Below, you may listen to the album (and if you like it, you may buy it or check out his other music at Blakesee’s website).

The Calabash Club includes Mike Effenberger (piano), Nick Phaneuf (bass), and Jim Rudolf (drums). As for Blakeslee, he is not only an accomplished musician; he also is an artist who has created a large number of rock posters and designed the albums for artists such as Slaid Cleaves. For a review of Blakeslee’s new album Owed to the Tanglin’ Wind, head over to No Depression.

    Stevie Nicks
is getting ready to release a new solo album, 24 Karat Gold — Songs From the Vault, her first since 2011. In anticipation, she has released the official video for one of the songs, “The Dealer.”

Nicks wrote “The Dealer” in the late 1970s when she was with Fleetwood Mac, but the song has never seen an offical release until now. 24 Carat Gold will feature other songs from “the vault.” Check out the “new” song.

Warner Bros. will release the album 24 Karat Gold — Songs From the Vault on October 7, 2014, with pre-orders starting already and an earlier vinyl release. Starting in September, Nicks will begin a reunion tour with Fleetwood Mac, so look for her to come to your neighborhood.

Laura Cantrell “Can’t Wait” — But We Did For Nine Years

    Laura Cantrell Can't Wait

With the exception of a 2011 Kitty Wells tribute, singer-songwriter Laura Cantrell has not released an album in nine years. That will change this Tuesday when she releases No Way There From Here. I have been listening to a stream of the new album on NPR (available for streaming until Tuesday). NPR notes how her mature songwriting reflects on the small details of life. And it sounds great.

One of the songs on the new album is “Can’t Wait.” Below is a video of Cantrell performing the song at the Glasgow Americana Festival at St Andrews in The Square in October. Check it out.

The Head and The Heart’s Josiah Johnson in a Parking Garage

    Josiah Johnson Parking Garage
Anyone who has had to split up with friends to search for a car in a parking garage and then had to call out knows what great acoustics those places have. Apparently, so does Josiah Johnson of The Head and The Heart. In this video he sings a new song in a parking garage. Nice.

The song is untitled on YouTube, but it is possible the song might appear on the band’s upcoming album, Let’s Be Still, which will be released on October 15 as the follow-up to their self-titled debut album released in 2009. The previous album featured the beautiful “Sounds Like Hallelujah,” so we are looking forward to the new CD. The Head and The Heart formed in Seattle, where the new album was recorded, and features songwriters Johnson and Jonathan Russell as well as drummer Tyler Williams, keyboard player Kenny Hensley, vocalist/violinist Charity Rose Thielen, and bassist Chris Zasche.
