Movie References in “The Simpsons”

simpsons seasons 1-5

A new video from NextMovie compiled all of the references to movies that occurred during the first five seasons of The Simpsons. Some are more obvious than others (like the Lawrence of Arabia one), but the video helps you out by telling you the movies. 2016 Update: Unfortunately, that video is no longer available, but below is a similar compilation of movie references from the first two seasons. This video was created by Quiritare Cinema.

How many do you recognize? Check it out.

1990 and 1986 in Pop Culture

    1990s music

The Remember website is making videos compiling music, movies, TV shows, video games and other pop culture references from past years. Their newest video takes a look at the year 1990. Remember Wilson Phillips, Beverly Hills 90210, “Vogue,” and Goodfellas? Check it out.

So far, they have covered five years. So far, the earliest year they have covered is 1986, but they are taking votes about which year to cover next. Below you may check out the 1986 video. Remember Alf, Don Johnson’s “Heartbeat,” the Challenger explosion, Stand By Me, and “Invisible Touch”?

What year would you like to see compiled into a video and why? Leave your two cents in the comments.

“The Greatest Event in Television History” Recreation of “Hart to Hart” Opening

    hart to hart

In our funny video of the week from Adult Swim, Amy Poehler and Adam Scott recreate the opening of the 1979-1984 TV series Hart to Hart, which starred Robert Wagner and Stefanie Powers as the wealthy crime-solving Jonathan and Jennifer Hart. Although such an event does not need any hype to prove it is “The Greatest Event in Television History,” Jeff Probst introduces the Hart to Hart opening remake, which begins around the 13:38 mark, making sure we understand the cultural significance of the event. Check it out.

Probst also reminds us that before this event, there was the first “Greatest Event in Television History,” which featured Adam Scott and Jon Hamm recreating the opening of Simon & Simon.

    Patton Oswalt’s Star Wars VII

On a recent episode of Parks & Recreation, Patton Oswalt described his funny vision for the next Star Wars film as Amy Poehler listened. A creative person named Isaac Moores, who goes by Izac Less on YouTube, rose to the occasion and made a video illustrating Oswalt’s description of Star Wars VII, which adds some characters such as Iron Man Tony Stark. Check it out.
